Position Statement

          Doves were anti-war protestors during the Vietnam Era. Senator J. Williams Fubright was the main leader for the Doves. He raised many questions about the expansion of war. Fulbright held televised hearings to examine U.S. policy in 1966. He argued that the war was not strategically important to the United States. The Senator also felt that Americans shouldn't be called upon to solve problems of the nation.

-My Son

They stole him from me to send him off to war,

and there he stayed to fight and die till it was done.

It's bad when governments steal sons from you,

and he was my son.

They said this war had to be fought

And that it was for a just and noble cause.

So, since I was patriotic and voted for them,

I stood by their laws.

But it always seems to be the young who go

And against whom the scales of death are swung.

It's bad when governments send young men off to die,

And my son was young.

 

For what matter to them of a million deaths

When war is he ender of life they promote?

You can be sure when their reelection comes up,

They won't get my vote!

For the enemy is now my chosen leader,

The enemy called peace that all governments abhor!

And you can be sure they won't get any more of my sons,

Till they end all war.

Oh they may think they can get away with murder

and do any damn thing they feel must be done,

but they won't take what I love away from me again,

And I love my son!

Every war is about money. With the depression and the economy the way it is we need to end the war and worry about are countries future. Many people are dying. This just makes more debt. We need to stop worrying about other countries and start worrying about are self’s.

 

If we stop, we can put our minds on our country and improving our economy. World peace is never a bad thing. It will improve our import and export system, which would help improve the depression. We are just to power hungry. Even sometimes the greatest countries fall.

 

Over all we need to stop worrying about money and other countries and start worrying about ours. Longer our troops are there the more dept we get in. many people have died at this war. We are going through a depression and are economy is not doing the way it should.

     I agree with President Eisenhower's advice. He says that the United States should never get involved in what he called "a land war in Asia". His instincts were right because the best equipped military in history could not and would not win anything after that long slog. The "enemy" was local and well disguised in plain sight. The U.S. did their best job to win but there was no way to be them.

     I don't understand why the senate would ask to declare war after we had been in war for more than a decade. The war doesn't even have to do with the United States. They have done nothing wrong to us so we shouldn't be fighting. That was their fight so they shouldn't bring us into it. Our innocent people are getting killed for their country.

     I am against the war because I didn't see no reason for the US to go to the Vietnam War, or any other war. United States personnel were brave and vialant and did their best to do a good job. The senate was asked to declare war even though we ad already been in war for a long time. This made me upset since it seem like he didn't care if we was in war or not.

    

      I feel like they have done nothing wrong to us so we shouldn't be fighting. Our people are going to a war risking their lives just because some senate who wanted to butt in some other countries problems. US just sent soldiers to go kill themselves for no reason. Most families lost relatives over some ignorant people.
