Creating Your Own “Watchdog” Organization

Driving Question -- Is it possible for a nation to industrialize without exploiting the poor and under-privileged?

After the Civil War, the United States began to industrialize rapidly.  Tycoon’s and corporations became very good at expanding business, growing infrastructure and making money.  Often this came at the expense of several less powerful groups.  We live in a great country.  However, these injustices are a “black-eye” on an otherwise proud history.  You have a chance to fix all that, if only in our make believe scenario.

You will create an organization that protects the needs, rights, and interests of the group you choose.  Your organization will detail a plan to protect the interests of your assigned perspective.

Perspectives:

Tycoon

Immigrant

Farmer

Native American

African-American

Union member

Woman

You must

  1. List the priorities and interests of your assigned group
  2. List the goals and structure of your organization
  3. Create a mission statement for your organization
  4. Create two public service announcements promoting the interests of your group.
  5. Present an organized, final presentation attempting to gain financial backing for the organization you have created.

You will assign the following roles within your group...

1. Group Leader

2. Technical Consultant

3. Creativity Consultant

4. Workman

You can right all the wrongs... Justice is in your hands.
